Michael Tehan heads our Melbourne Human Resources and Industrial Relations group. He is a leading strategic and tactical advisor to major government and private employers on wide-ranging workplace matters.

Bringing experience as a former senior public servant, union official, and 25 years in legal practice, Michael’s recognised expertise spans industrial relations and employment, discrimination, constitutional, administrative and education law.

He has a significant reputation in industrial and enterprise bargaining strategy, sensitive employment and discrimination matters, and issues concerning procedural fairness in administrative tribunals.

Michael works extensively for Federal and State government agencies, representing the Victorian Government in some of its most sensitive matters.

He has resolved or conducted countless cases involving unfair dismissal, discrimination and contract disputes, and has litigated some of Australia’s most difficult and high profile industrial disputes in all Commonwealth and State courts and tribunals.

Some long-standing clients include Australia Post (35,000 employees), Optus, Silver Top Taxis, and various Victorian Government departments.

Michael’s leading expertise across employment, labour and government law is consistently noted in independent national and international peer guides.

He is a regular speaker, both in Australia and overseas, and has been awarded Victorian Fellow of the Institute of Public Administration Australia for his service in public administration.
