Greenfield master planned communities
Paul has worked on a range of significant and high profile property transactions involving the creation of master planned communities. These projects have included the drafting and negotiation of land acquisition contracts, development agreements and documentation with relevant statutory authorities. Paul has also overseen the conduct of planning applications, approvals and appeals.

Strata residential
Paul regularly acts for developers of strata residential complexes. These projects typically involve the drafting and negotiation of sales contracts, strata company by-laws and management agreements, management statements, easements and restrictive covenants. Paul also advises developers on their rights when buyers seek to avoid their sales contracts and has overseen the conduct of litigation to enforce those contracts.

Government projects
Paul is a longstanding advisor to government agencies on major urban renewal and property development projects. His recent experience includes working with the East Perth Redevelopment Authority on the redevelopment of the Perth Cultural Centre precinct. This involved the negotiation of the precinct's management order, agreements with neighbouring prominent public institutions and leases and licenses for use of the precinct space. Paul also acted for the Subiaco Redevelopment Authority on documentation for cutting-edge sustainability infrastructure development within the Australian Fine China site in Subiaco, Perth.

Commercial
Paul acts widely in the acquisition, development, leasing and sale of land in the commercial sector. This includes dealing with a range of ancillary commercial issues such as duty, land tax and GST. Most recently, he acted for the Dexus group in undertaking seller due diligence and sale documentation for the sale of Dexus' one-half interest in the QV.1 building, a premium grade office tower on St Georges Terrace, Perth.

Retail
Paul has significant expertise in the sale and purchase of retail assets, including large retail shopping centres. These projects involve extensive due diligence on the retail and anchor-tenant leases and advising on the ability to redevelop and expand the centre. Paul offers a practical, commercial and problem-solving approach to help clients achieve their transaction goals.

Industrial
Paul works with a range of clients on the acquisition, development, leasing and sale of industrial land. This includes dealing with a range of ancillary commercial issues such as duty, land tax, and GST. Paul's recent experience includes preparing seller due diligence and sale documentation for big-box industrial complexes in Rivervale and Canning Vale, Western Australia.

Retirement villages
Paul is a strategic and trusted legal advisor for key players in the burgeoning retirement village industry. He understands emerging industry trends, increasing regulatory pressures, the drivers of government policy and the day-to-day issues facing retirement village operators. The backbone of Paul’s practice involves preparing residents’ contracts and service agreements, undertaking retirement village sale and purchase transactions, and advising on relevant sector legislation.

Distressed sale
Paul has advised clients in both the sale and purchase of distressed assets. These transactions typically see Paul working closely with receivers and managers. Most recently, Paul was part of the national Minter Ellison team undertaking the disposal of the plantation, vineyard and other assets of the Great Southern group of companies.

Real estate leasing
Paul has considerable experience acting for both landlords and tenants in commercial and retail leasing. This includes the leasing of premium grade office towers and large retail shopping centres. Paul understands the market drivers in both the commercial and retail sectors and their impact on the bargaining power of landlords and tenants in leasing transactions.
