From negotiating the purchase of long lead items for large scale iron ore mining, to EPC contracts for offshore LNG production, and negotiating terms for rail corridor construction, Richard has assisted clients with all forms of construction contracting in the energy and resource sector. He has particular experience of getting early stage resource projects underway through contracting strategies and procurement of long lead items.

Richard has a Masters in Construction Law from King's College in London and has worked on infrastructure procurements internationally. From billion dollar alliancing contracts in rail, to 10-year road network renewal construction contracts, he has experience of EPC, EPCM, alliancing and other forms of construction procurement. Richard's work with banks and project developers allows him to see the whole picture.

Richard is a leader in the renewable energy sector and has advised on some of the most significant renewable energy deals in Europe, including the largest waste-fired power station in Western Europe where he led the team advising the senior lenders.

Richard has genuine experience on major water projects. From advising the Water Corporation on Western Australia's first water PPP to 'Project Omega' in Northern Ireland, where Richard advised on complex operational issues on this large scale waste water treatment facility, he has the sector background to advise on any capital procurement.

Finance Projects and Project Finance
Richard has a track record of closing complex project finance deals for lenders and borrowers, including leading the team for the senior lenders (banks, multilateral, and government) on the only project financing to involve a sovereign government participating on commercial debt terms. From advising incoming MLAs on a complex portfolio refinancing of project finance assets to greenfield developments, Richard brings a 'whole of project' approach to the structuring of deals. His 12 years in London have given him a breadth of experience across roads, large scale renewable power projects, schools, hospitals, waste treatment infrastructure and more.

Social Infrastructure – Hospitals, Housing, Education and Justice
Richard returned to Australia after 12 years in the UK, where he led teams closing more than 35 social infrastructure projects. These included large acute hospitals, medical equipment PPPs, secondary schools, a number of housing PPPs, and the first courts PPP to be funded through a privately placed bond.
