This week, our SPARK reading program mentors celebrated graduation with their year 2 mentees at Mascot Primary School.
Over the last 12 weeks, our mentors have travelled to Mascot to work one on one with young mentees helping them with their reading and comprehension skills.
The graduation was a great success with all mentees receiving a book as a gift from their mentor. Even a few of the children's parents attended the graduation and thanked the mentors for all their work.
So, Why does SPARK matter?
In 2012, Australia was ranked in an international benchmarking study specifically addressing primary reading attainment. The study is known as PIRLS.
Australia ranked 27th out of 48 participating countries with a quarter of Australian students failing to meet the minimum reading standard for Year 4.
Thank you again to all SPARK mentors for helping to make a difference on in issue that matters to Australia’s future.
