During my time as a Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, I was in charge of the Individual, Small and Medium enterprises, High Net Wealth, and Large Business taxpayer segments. With the emergence of the OECD's Base Erosion and Profit Shifting Action Plan, I became responsible for International Taxation and Competent Authority and led the ATO’s response to the BEPS Action Plan. In this role I led the establishment and operation of the ATO's Tax Avoidance Taskforce and was instrumental in the development and implementation of the revised transfer pricing provisions, the Multinational Anti-Avoidance Legislation, Country by Country Reporting, the Common Reporting Standard, and the Diverted Profits Tax.

  • Led the Tax Avoidance Taskforce at the ATO, and was responsible for developing and delivering the federal government’s strategy on multinationals which netted major settlements with tech giants including Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Facebook.
  • Represented Australia on the OECD Taskforce on the Digital Economy and various OECD Working Parties, led the OECD Joint International Taskforce for Sharing Intelligence and Cooperation (JITSIC).
  • Held a role of Deputy Commissioner at the ATO’s small and medium enterprises business line, where I designed an audit-based methodology to administer the income tax system for business and individual taxpayers across the SME market as well as high-wealth individuals, the non-profit sector, and government organisations.
