Russell has a strong reputation and deep expertise in the transport industry, particularly the provision of strategic commercial, regulatory and competition advice to participants in the aviation and rail sectors. He has handled airport, airline, rail and defence privatisation projects in Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
Russell has a diverse and leading aviation regulatory practice. For more than 20 years he has represented the International Air Transport Association in Australia on major competition matters. He was a member of the Government team preparing for the sale of Australia's international airport terminals. He also served as chair of the International Air Services Commission and the CAA Advisory Board. Russell has won global recognition for his aviation expertise, advising several international airlines on competition and consumer matters.
He was a founding Commissioner of the International Air Services Commission and a former Chair of the International Bar Associations Aviation Committee, and has held a number of directorships and government appointments.
