MinterEllison has appointed Pooyan Asgari as its Chief AI Officer.

In this newly created role, Pooyan will lead the firm’s AI strategy and drive the responsible, effective integration of AI across the firm.

Pooyan joins MinterEllison from Domain Group, where he served as Chief Data Officer for eight years. During that time, he built Domain into one of Australia’s real estate industries most AI-mature organisations, architecting an enterprise-wide AI strategy, building a proprietary predictive AI engine and large-scale data platforms serving millions of users, and delivering multiple seven-figure revenue streams from AI.

Virginia Briggs, CEO and Managing Partner of MinterEllison, said:
“This is a very exciting appointment for the firm. Pooyan has both deep experience in advising on enterprise AI and then building and commercialising it at scale across large organisations. That rare skillset will further accelerate our leading-edge AI strategy and deeply embed AI into how we deliver value to our clients. Pooyan's decision to join us reflects the great strength of MinterEllison's strategic AI direction.”

Pooyan Asgari said:
“I’m thrilled to join MinterEllison. The legal profession is one of the most fascinating places to be working on AI right now; the stakes are high, the problems are genuinely hard, and the opportunity to create real value is enormous. I look forward to working with MinterEllison to build something exceptional.”

MinterEllison is known for its leading-edge AI strategy, embedding AI across its legal and consulting teams through a combination of strategic partnerships, proprietary technology and firm-wide capability building.

This includes its co-development partnership with Legora as the firm’s AI collaborator, and the development of proprietary tools such as Cortex - its AI-driven legal data engine, recently recognised at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Asia-Pacific Awards - alongside other firm-built solutions including Stockatoo, CASEowary and HelpME.

The firm has also recently launched its AI Accelerator program to embed AI-enabled workflows across its teams. In 2025 Simon Ball was appointed the firm's Managing Partner, AI. Pooyan Asgari will work closely with Simon Ball and Gary Adler, Chief Digital Officer, on delivery of the AI strategy.
