Mr Colla is one of four new members of the panel, which is made up of leading business and M&A specialists.

MinterEllison Partner Alberto Colla, a public markets mergers and acquisitions specialist, has been appointed to the Takeovers Panel, as announced by the Federal Treasurer last week.

He is one of four new members appointed to the Panel, a peer review body that regulates corporate control transactions by effective and efficient resolution of takeover disputes.

"This is an important role in our community and a fantastic recognition of Alberto's public markets expertise, as well as that of our entire public M&A team," said M&A/Capital Markets co-lead Con Boulougouris.

Mr Colla, who is Melbourne-based, has been appointed for a three year term. Panellists work part time and are made up of active members of Australia's takeovers and business communities.

"MinterEllison has had a central role advising on many of the leading and market-shaping transactions over the past two years. These include Village Roadshow's takeover by BGH, Essity's acquisition of Asaleo Care, JBS's takeover of Huon Aquaculture, Cromwell Property's defence against the hostile takeover by ARA Asset Management, HUB24’s takeover of Class and the sale of Humm Group’s consumer finance business to Latitude. Alberto's appointment reflects his and the team's commitment to creating market leading takeover designs and structures in implementing these public M&A transactions," M&A/Capital Markets co-lead Joseph Pace said.

"The Takeovers Panel plays an important part in supporting growth, competition and investment in the Australian market. It's an exciting time to be joining the Panel, with a number of important recent decisions that are reshaping market practice. I'm looking forward to working with my peers on the Panel, as well as continuing to support MinterEllison clients with their public M&A strategies as we navigate the opportunities and challenges our market presents," said Mr Colla.

MinterEllison will soon be launching its Directions in Public M&A report, which explores key market themes, industry trends and predictions for the remainder of 2022.
