In a big week for MinterEllison, the firm last week claimed 5 major awards, including:
Announced at a gala dinner in Shanghai on Thursday night, MinterEllison was awarded the AustCham Westpac Australia China Business Award (ACBA) in the Professional and Business Services Category for the second consecutive year.
For 25 years, the AustCham Westpac ACBA's have been recognising Australian and Chinese companies working together in the Greater China region. Finalists in the Professional and Business Services Category included King & Wood Mallesons, Moelis Australia, L.E.K. Consulting, CPA Australia, FCM Travel Solutions and Think China.
"Winning for a second consecutive year is a huge endorsement and recognition of our more than 20 year commitment to the China market and the China and Australia bi-lateral relationship," said Adam Handley, MinterEllison Partner and the firm's China Markets Leader.
"With more than 40 partners and 100 lawyers focussed on the China market we are honoured that Australian and Chinese clients have trusted us to advise on some of the highest profile and most complex transactions between China and Australia. Our extensive team, on the ground in Australia and China, prides itself on our capacity to navigate the inevitable cross cultural differences that arise in cross border transactions."
Also on Thursday at the Australasian Law Awards, in front of 650 of the top legal professionals across Australia and New Zealand at The Star in Sydney, MinterEllison won 3 prestigious awards - the Property, Infrastructure & Projects Deal of the Year for Melbourne Metro, the Equity Market Deal of the Year for Yancoal Capital Raising, and the M&A Deal of the Year for Yancoal’s acquisition of Coal & Allied.
“The Australasian Law Awards were highly contested, so we're absolutely delighted to be recognised with three prestigious awards," said Daniel Scotti, Head of MinterEllison’s Sydney Equity Capital Markets team and lead of the Yancoal Capital Raising. "We assisted Yancoal on this significant, transformative and now, award-winning, transaction. The transaction was highly complex, involving cross-border issues and significant stakeholder management."
The momentous US$2.5 billion equity raising funded the continued expansion of Yancoal via its acquisition of Coal & Allied (being the number 1 global mining deal (by value) at the time of the announcement of the deal).
"Huge congratulations to our specialist team, who leveraged their knowledge gained from our long-standing relationship with Yancoal, collaborating closely with it and our co-advisers to deliver such a successful transaction which helps redefine Yancoal's position within the global coal marketplace,” said Mr Scotti.
In the same week, at the 2018 Asia Legal Awards run by the World Services Group the firm won the Acquisition Finance Deal of the Year – also for its role advising on the Yancoal acquisition of Coal & Allied.
"It's great to receive this recognition for being involved in some of the largest and most innovative deals in the Australian market. Our M&A team was also recognised for our work in significant special situations with two other deals as finalists in the Australasian Law Awards, the Ten Network Restructuring and the Boart Longyear Restructuring," said Con Boulougouris, Head of MinterEllison’s Sydney M&A team.
"The continued growth and momentum in our M&A practice is a testament to our extremely high performing line-up and the outstanding work we're doing with our clients in the mid and large-cap space, including our ASX100 clients, in helping them manage complex deals and situations."
