GOLDOC role: Manager of Legal

A Senior Associate at MinterEllison, Gold Coast, Jessica is Manager of Legal in the embedded team at GOLDOC. Her expertise include broadcasting rights, sponsorship, project delivery, complex procurements and contractual negotiations, event infrastructure, risk and liability and quality commercial generalist/in-house. During her time at GOLDOC, she has worked on production agreements for the GC2018 Opening and Closing Ceremony, Host Broadcast Agreements, Transport Agreements, Catering Services Agreements, Supply Agreements and Sponsorship Agreements, to name a few. Jessica was selected to represent MinterEllison in the Queen’s Baton Relay, running in her home town of Newcastle in February 2018.

April Rich, Senior Associate, MinterEllison Gold Coast
GOLDOC role: Manager of Brand Protection

Managing Brand Protection in the embedded team at GOLDOC is MinterEllison Senior Associate April. She is charged with managing the delivery of the Brand Protection function for GC2018, together with providing all facets of commercial legal advice, specialising in Intellectual Property law. April manages the Brand Protection team comprising one lawyer, one graduate lawyer and a rotating roster of two legal interns. She is also the Manager of the MinterEllison and Griffith University Intern Program, training and managing up to five interns each trimester within the team. Key projects she has worked on include the negotiation of broadcasting and music license agreements, media access to information and the registration and protection of the entire suite of GC2018 brands. During this time, April also achieved admission as an Attorney in California, United States of America after passing the Bar Examination.

Louise Young, Senior Associate, MinterEllison Gold Coast
GOLDOC role: Legal Manager of Venue Delivery and Overlay

Louise is a Senior Associate at MinterEllison, Gold Coast, and Legal Manager for the Venue Development and Overlay program in the embedded team at GOLDOC. She is responsible for all legal work behind the temporary construction program that will bring all of the GC2018 competition and non-competition venues to life. When Louise isn’t tackling difficult construction law issues, she can be found negotiating sponsorship agreements, procuring field of play essentials like squash courts and the athletics track or assisting with the administration of a raft of construction contracts.

Guy Cosgrove, Senior Associate, MinterEllison Gold Coast
GOLDOC role: Lawyer

For the past year, Guy has been the lead lawyer on the GC2018 Queen’s Baton Relay project. He has also played a key role in the procurement security services for the Games.. He has also drafted and negotiated agreements for GC2018 ambassadors and worked across countless additional supply and sponsorship agreements ranging from security, technology, timing scoring and results, cleaning and waste, accommodation, corporate hospitality, licensing and merchandising and medical functional areas.

Yvette Mason, Associate, MinterEllison Gold Coast
GOLDOC role: Lawyer

As a property lawyer, Yvette has been instrumental in the management of venue and land use agreements, working closely with the Venue Management Team to finalise many of the competition venue use agreements (VUAs). She has also worked with them on variations to VUAs and the ancillary venue use agreements needed for training, funding agreements and many other land use requirements for the successful operation of GC2018. She has worked closely with the procurement team and many of the Functional Areas to negotiate supply agreements for things such as the look and signage for the whole of GC2018, sports presentation, catering, hire equipment, Games Time Photographer and recycling.

Madeline Lacy, Graduate, MinterEllison Gold Coast
GOLDOC role: Legal Graduate

From 2014 to 2016, Madeline studied a Bachelor of Laws degree at Griffith University, Gold Coast. As part of Griffith’s sponsorship agreement with GOLDOC, it offered various students in various degrees the opportunity to take part in a once in a life time 12 week internship program. Given her love for sport, she took up this opportunity and was in the first group of interns working in the MinterEllison GOLDOC legal team. When a position in the team becoming available at the end of her internship, she applied for a full time role as a graduate/legal assistant. She has been in this role since December 2016 and since then graduated with a Bachelor of Laws in December 2016 and completed her Practical Legal Training and the College of Law in November 2017. During her time at GOLDOC Madeline has worked on an array of projects including helping to maintain and protect the GC2018 brand through the Brand Protection program developed by Paula Robinson. Madeline was selected to represent MinterEllison in the Queen’s Baton Relay, running in Townsville in March 2018.
