MinterEllison legal staff participate in the Queen's Baton Relay on its journey to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

MinterEllison recently became part of Australian sporting history, participating in the Queen's Baton Relay on its journey to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The Queen’s Baton Relay is a Games tradition which celebrates the Commonwealth’s diversity, inspires community pride and excites people ahead of the world-class festival of sports and culture to come.

Carrying a message from Her Majesty the Queen, the Baton left Buckingham Palace on 13 March 2017 to travel an astonishing 388 days across 230,000 kilometres through all nations and territories of the Commonwealth in Africa, the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

The message, which calls on all Commonwealth athletes to come together in peaceful and friendly competition, will reach its final destination on the Gold Coast for the Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018. There, Her Majesty, or a representative, will remove it from the Baton and read it aloud to officially open
the Games.

Seven staff from MinterEllison were selected by the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation to take part in the Relay as batonbearers.

MinterEllison will be represented around the nation by the following legal staff:

Patrick McCabe – Thursday 25 January – Canberra

Jessica Norris – Saturday 3 February – Newcastle

Michelle Pennicott – Friday 16 March – Cairns

Maddie Lacy – Sunday 18 March – Townsville

Robert Reed – Sunday 25 March – Maryborough

Ken Petty – Tuesday 3 April – Gold Coast

Paula Robinson – Wednesday 4 April – Gold Coast

As the Official Lawyers to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, MinterEllison is honoured to see some of its most celebrated individuals take part in this momentous event.
