Life Insurance Claims

Typically, our life insurance clients have several claims spread throughout Australia, litigated and unlitigated, that require both specialist and local knowledge to resolve. Our experienced life insurance lawyers are located in various offices, which enables us to use our knowledge of the applicable law and common issues, combined with our knowledge of local players and procedures, to achieve effective and favourable outcomes.

Our practice extends to acting for trustees, and working closely for and with reinsurers. We also advise trustees, insurers and employers on group policies and claims under them. Employers consult us on such issues as total and permanent disability (TPD) claims on termination of employment.

In the external dispute resolution arena, we assist with submissions and the defence of complaints being handled by the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) and the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal (SCT). Whether claims involve TPD, income protection, trauma, or death, we apply our experience to help resolve the situation as smoothly as possible.

By managing national portfolios of claims for various clients, we ensure that the corporate knowledge and any lessons learned are retained and shared, providing our clients with consistency in how claims are managed. We also deliver seminars and workshops to our clients’ claims teams, and participate in industry bodies such as the Australian Life Underwriters and Claims Association.
