Biography
Martin has over 20 years' experience as a corporate lawyer and is well known in Australia as a leading private equity and M&A lawyer. He practised M&A in the UK for five years with leading London firm, Travers Smith, before moving to Australia and joining Minter Ellison.
His clients include a number of the leading private equity funds in Australia, as well as many corporates.
Martin has led the Minter Ellison private equity team on numerous MBOs, secondary buy-outs, and dual-track exit transactions, including on several of the first Secondary Buy-Outs in Australia.
In 2006, he advised on the first successful hostile Public to Private takeover bid in Australia by a private equity fund (Affinity Equity Partners' successful takeover bid of footwear and clothing retailer, Colorado Group).
He has also advised numerous corporates, both Australian and overseas, including UK and US companies on acquisitions of Australian groups and restructures and divestments of non-core businesses.
Martin's expertise has been recognised in publications including The International Financial Law Review where he is named as 'one of the world's leading private equity lawyers', in The PLC Cross-Border Handbook 'Private Equity Lawyers Worldwide' (2008) and he is named as a 'recommended' adviser in private equity in Global Council 3000.
