Biography
An administrative law specialist and head of Canberra's planning and environment team, Alan acts for a wide range of government departments and agencies (both Commonwealth and ACT), local government and corporate clients. He has extensive experience in planning and environment law, statutory interpretation, FOI, administrative appeals and judicial reviews.
He has worked in both private practice and in the legal branch of the NSW Department of Environment and Planning and has acted for a wide range of clients including the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, the Department of Finance and Administration, ActewAGL, Multiplex Asset Management and National Rail Corporation, regularly appearing as an advocate in the Land and Environment Court.
Alan regularly advises on the interpretation of Commonwealth, ACT and NSW planning and environment laws.
He has published widely and is currently the ACT and Federal Editor of the Local Government Law Journal. Alan is a regular speaker on planning and environmental law issues and he lectures in sustainability and land use law at the Australian National University.
