Biography
Kent is a partner in Minter Ellison's Energy & Resources area. His practice includes advising on mining, oil and gas law (with a particular focus on uranium) and corporate and business law.
From our Adelaide office, Kent heads Minter Ellison's specialised Uranium Industry Focus Group, advising international and Australian businesses on all aspects of the legal regulation of Australia's uranium industry. He acts for uranium producers and explorers, and has advised on the sale and joint venturing of production and exploration assets, and development of uranium production operations. He is regularly sought for external comment on developing issues in the uranium industry.
Kent's mining and petroleum practice includes advising on:
petroleum exploration and production
joint ventures, farm-ins/farm-outs, unitisations, coordination arrangements and other partnering arrangements
offtake, export and marketing arrangements
Federal and State-based regulation and licensing
operations management and project delivery for joint venture operations
project and joint venture structuring and management
native title and Aboriginal culture and heritage issues.
On the corporate and business front, he advises on capital raisings, stock exchange compliance, due diligence, and commercial and business transactions, as well as corporate restructures, and board and shareholder meeting procedures. He is widely experienced on corporate governance matters, advising on directors' duties and corporate governance, the Corporations Act, and compliance with ASX Corporate Governance Council's Principles of Good Corporate Governance & Best Practice Recommendations, as well as a range of industry-based governance codes of conduct.
Kent's professional memberships include Australian Mining Petroleum Law Association (Vice-President, SA Branch Committee, from 2004), Chartered Secretaries Australia (South Australian Council, from 2006), Law Society of South Australia, Australian Corporate Lawyers Association and Australian Institute of Company Directors. Kent is recognised by the Best Lawyers: Australia (2010) for his corporate/governance work.
