Biography

Garry is a Doctor of Laws, a qualified chartered accountant and is the only practising solicitor in Australia registered as a liquidator by the Australian Securities & Investment Commission.

He acts for banks and financial institutions in all aspects of security enforcement and debt recovery and has been involved, either directly or indirectly, with most of the larger corporate insolvencies in Australia in the past 20 years.

He has lectured extensively including in bankruptcy and company liquidation at the Legal Practice Course of the Queensland University of Technology and in the corporate insolvency subject in the Masters of Laws Course for the University of Queensland.

Garry is a prolific publisher of insolvency articles and completed his doctoral by publishing a book on corporate insolvency. He has been invited to present papers at numerous insolvency conferences including those run by the US Bar Association and Insol Europe.

In 2006, Garry had the privilege of being invited to sit on the select Government committee responsible for reviewing and advising on the Corporations Amendment (Insolvency) Bill 2007 (Cth).

In 2009 Garry was asked by the Department of Treasury and Official Receiver in China to address them on the practical application of the voluntary administration regime which China intends to introduce into that country. It is likely that Garry will assist the Chinese government in drafting legislation tailored to the needs of that country.

Garry has been recognised by leading independent legal guides and publications such as Chambers Global (2010) which described him as giving 'value-added pragmatic advice' and the Asia Pacific Legal 500 Guide (2009) which noted his ability to provide 'detailed advice on difficult matters'.
