Biography
Recognised by the 2006/2007 edition of Asia Pacific Legal 500 as "one of Hong Kong's most seasoned corporate lawyers and one who continues to hold great influence in the region", Fred heads the firm's Corporate & Commercial practice in Asia. He has nearly 30 years' experience (15 of those in Hong Kong) as a specialist corporate and transactional lawyer and as an investment banker.
A former partner of Herbert Smith in London and Hong Kong, former partner of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in Hong Kong, and former Managing Director of Peregrine Capital Limited, Fred has advised issuers and underwriters on many IPOs, rights issues, share placings and public and private mergers and acquisitions. He has also worked with multinationals, investment banks, Hong Kong corporations and the Hong Kong and Shanghai governments on M&As, equity fundraisings, refinancings and restructurings, direct investments and infrastructure projects.
In addition to his mainstream corporate experience, Fred has substantial experience advising on the corporate law aspects of major entertainment projects, having been a key adviser to the Hong Kong Government in relation to the Hong Kong Disney theme park, the Shanghai Government in relation to Shanghai Universal theme park and Las Vegas Sands in relation to its major gaming projects in Macau and its successful bid to build and operate Singapore's first casino.
Fred was named a recommended corporate and private equity lawyer in Hong Kong by the most recent edition of PLC Which Lawyer. He has also been recognised as a recommended capital markets lawyer in Hong Kong/PRC by Global Counsel 3000, and has been recommended in the latest edition of PLC Global Counsel Private Equity Handbook.
He is admitted to practice in England and Wales (1974) and in Hong Kong (1982).
