Alice is a partner in Minter Ellison Canberra's Dispute Resolution group. She is the leader of the Public and Administrative Law practice in Canberra and provides advice to a number of Commonwealth and local government bodies. Her strengths lie in her technical, legal and communication skills and her ability to identify risks, issues and prospects and where appropriate resolve proceedings at an early stage using alternative dispute resolution techniques.
Alice has represented the Commonwealth in a number of highly sensitive and complex proceedings in the AAT, the Federal Court and the High Court. She develops strategies in conjunction with her clients to ensure the client's objectives and obligations are understood and met, and risks are identified and managed.
Alice also has considerable experience handling large litigation case loads, as well as managing national teams of lawyers in order to efficiently respond to the needs of Commonwealth clients in all States and Territories.
Administrative law is a particular area of focus and interest. She advises Commonwealth Government agencies on a range of issues including administrative decision-making, information access, statutory interpretation, judicial review and merits review, freedom of information and privacy. Alice assists with drafting legislative instruments for Commonwealth agencies. She also advises on claims conducted in the Supreme Court arising out of professional negligence, particularly medical and hospital malpractice. In addition, she advises clients on indemnity issues and the interpretation of contracts.
Alice is an active member of the firm's Health and Ageing industry group, and has extensive experience in advising clients in relation to the Health Insurance Act 1973 (Cth) and the Aged Care Act 1997 (Cth).
