MinterEllison has advised Phoenix Energy and Macquarie Capital on the land tenure arrangements for their Kwinana Waste-to-Energy Project.

The project, located in Kwinana in Western Australia, will be Australia’s first thermal waste-to-energy facility. Once completed, it will divert 400,000 tonnes of waste from landfill per year and will generate 36MW of energy for exporting to the grid.

The MinterEllison team advised project proponents Phoenix Energy and Macquarie Capital on all aspects of the consortium's land tenure arrangements with the State Government of Western Australia.

“Congratulations to everyone who has worked tirelessly over the past decade to see this project through to financial close. An important step for waste management in Australia and a great boost for the WA economy and local jobs. We’re proud to have supported this significant project since its inception,” said MinterEllison partner Lee Rossetto.

The MinterEllison team was led by property and infrastructure partner Lee Rossetto, with support from special counsel Nada Raphael, senior associate Alex Lowe and associate Minal Naran.
