MinterEllison advises Busways on major Sydney Metropolitan bus contract win

1 minute read  22.08.2021

The Greater Sydney Bus Contract 7 win will see Busways operate 1.1 million trips a year in Sydney's Lower North Shore and Inner North West

MinterEllison recently advised leading bus operator, Busways, in its execution of one of the largest bus contracts awarded by Transport for New South Wales, the Greater Sydney Bus Contract 7. This significant contract win more than doubles Busways' Sydney operations, and follows its expansion into South Australia last year.

Under the contract, Busways will welcome around 900 employees, 453 buses and two depots. The expansion will see Busways grow to more than 2,800 people, 20 depots, over 1300 buses, and 60 million annual passenger trips.

Busways successful proposal includes zero-emissions technology, demand-responsive transport, automated passenger vehicle services, and real-time customer information to improve customer experience on the NSW public transport network.

Busways will work with Transport for NSW to electrify the fleet, deliver a substantial capital works program to increase depot capacity, and introduce smart technology and real-time passenger information at bus stops.

MinterEllison Partner, Jonathon Williams, said: "We're proud to have had the opportunity to support Busways on the execution of this significant contract, which solidifies their position as Australia's largest privately-owned bus operator."

MinterEllison led contract negotiations and execution, with Jonathon Williams (Partner) and Sian Keast (Special Counsel) at the helm, and supported by Nick Meyer (Lawyer) and Zoe Zhang (Lawyer).
