Our relationship with James Meehan High School goes back to 2004, when we began a mentoring program with the students.
The LEAPS program - Law Firms Encouraging and Assisting Promising Students Program – is run by the Department of Education in New South Wales. It pairs promising Year 9 students at risk of leaving school early with a junior lawyer for mentoring support during a six month program, and runs sessions that help students focus on skills that will help them in the future.
To celebrate our ongoing relationship, we were thrilled to invite 15 James Meehan students to attend the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 Opening Ceremony on Saturday evening, held on the Opera House forecourt.
Anton Hermann, Director of Pro Bono & Community Investment, noted how important it was for MinterEllison to include the students in the special event.
"The Invictus Games celebrate resilience and determination – a message that I know resonates with the inspiring students we work with through the LEAPS program.
"We were thrilled to share this once in a lifetime experience with the students, and give them an opportunity to share in the excitement and witness some of the inspirational stories," he said.
