I am an experienced litigation lawyer, with a strong focus on all aspects of personal injuries litigation and I have acted for many large Australian insurers, local and State Government authorities, and self-insured entities. I act in both common law claims for damages and in defence of recovery actions brought by the Victorian WorkCover Authority.

I regularly prepare concise and practical advice for clients, provide representation at conferences and mediations, and appear and instruct in the County and Supreme Courts of Victoria.

I have a particular interest in the application of the Road Management Act 2004 (Vic) in claims involving road authorities.

Another aspect of my practice involves Coronial Inquests and providing advice and representation to interested parties including Municipal Councils and State Government departments. This includes liaising with interested parties to prepare detailed statements in response to requests from the Coroner.

Career highlights

  • Municipal Association of Australia: Acted on behalf of MAV in public liability matters (both personal injury and property damage) for over 10 years. These matters have included proceedings in the Magistrates, County, and Supreme Courts both in Melbourne and regional Victoria. Katherine has acted in all aspects of MAV claims including pre-litigation conferences and advice, appearing at mediations, directions hearings, and interlocutory applications, and instructing counsel in both County and Supreme Court trials.
  • Telstra: Acted on behalf of Telstra in public liability matters involving personal injury claims arising from Telstra's assets as well as in defence of recovery actions brought by the Victorian WorkCover Authority. Katherine's work has included providing strategic and practical advice and appearing for Telstra at conferences and mediations.
  • QBE Insurance: Acted on behalf of QBE insureds in defence of personal injury and property damage claims including recovery actions brought by the Victorian WorkCover Authority. Katherine also undertook a secondment with QBE Insurance in 2015 during which she acted in a Claims Officer role.
  • Transport Accident Commission: Acted on behalf of TAC indemnified drivers in defence of common law personal injuries claims including the preparation of detailed advice and appearing at conferences and mediations.
