The firm’s immediate past Chair, Gillian Brown heads our Queensland Finance team. She is a leading corporate and project lawyer with extensive experience in energy and resources, infrastructure and construction project financing.
Gillian advises infrastructure funds, listed companies, banks, universities and government agencies on wide-ranging project financings spanning wind farms, power stations, ports, hospitals, mines and refineries, major property and tourism developments.
She has particular expertise in public sector borrowing and debt capital markets.
Notably, Gillian’s three years as Chair saw the firm increase its strategic-level work for Top 100 clients, achieve record growth, and gain recognition for its commitment to corporate social responsibility.
Some long-standing clients include all four major Australian banks and Infrastructure Capital Group.
A recipient of CFO Magazine’s Project Finance Deal of the Year award, Gillian’s pre-eminent banking and finance expertise is widely noted in leading industry guides.
She is a member of the capital markets board of Queensland Treasury Corporation and a director of Australian Rail Track Corporation.

A leading finance lawyer, Gillian has wide experience in syndicated, club and bilateral corporate finance transactions across a range of industries. They include agribusiness, retail, manufacturing, engineering and project management, and travel and tourism. Gillian regularly acts in unsecured transactions for investment grade borrowers using APLMA standard documents. She has particular expertise acting for borrowers in debt capital market transactions including loan note issues and US private placements.
Gillian has acted for lenders and borrowers in varied project financings including for coalmines, wind farms, power stations, and alumina and zinc refineries. Highlights include Energy Infrastructure Trust’s innovative project acquisition financing for the Hallett 2 wind farm in South Australia. The deal garnered CFO Magazine's 2009 Project Finance Deal of the Year award.
Gillian has more than 25 years' experience as a specialist corporate and project finance lawyer. She acts for both lenders and borrowers with particular expertise in financing infrastructure, energy, and resources projects.
In addition to her transactional practice, Gillian advises clients on regulatory and compliance matters including personal property securities legislation.
Recognised for her leading finance expertise, Gillian has acted for financiers in project or structured finance transactions involving ports, private hospitals, educational facilities and wide ranging energy and resources projects.
Gillian advises financiers on diverse property finance transactions involving joint ventures, trusts, and managed investment schemes (REITs). Her experience includes acquisition and development finance for major CBD and regional shopping centres, commercial and industrial developments, tourism projects, and residential strata and subdivision developments. Gillian has extensive expertise in Queensland land title and strata title legislation, management and letting rights, and the enforceability of residential pre-sales contracts.
