Minter Ellison's senior lawyer on the ground in Mongolia, partner Elisabeth (Lis) Ellis, has been shortlisted for an individual Euromoney Legal Media Group Women in Business Law Award. She is a finalist in the category Best in Asia in Energy & Resources. The Euromoney awards recognise women lawyers leading the field in their practice area.
During her 17 years in Asia, Ms Ellis has worked on significant LNG and gas projects in China, power and water projects throughout Asia, and mining projects in Australia, Indonesia and now Mongolia. She is working with major energy players, including mining companies and energy traders, and ASX listed junior exploration companies on their inbound investments into Mongolia. She also advises international and Mongolian mining companies on a full range of operational matters relating to their mining operations and on cutting edge coal bed methane and coal to liquid projects in Mongolia.
"We are delighted that Lis' track record of achievement over many years has been recognised," Minter Ellison's International Managing Partner, Mark Green, said. "She is one of Asia pre-eminent energy and resources lawyers and she has been a strong supporter of diversity initiatives within the firm and in our Hong Kong office when she was based there."
Ms Ellis opened Minter Ellison's Ulaanbaatar office in February this year and now leads a team of seven lawyers (including two Australian lawyers and five Mongolian lawyers).
