Leading law firm MinterEllison has attracted another legal expert to join its rapidly expanding superannuation practice.

In the fast-changing superannuation industry, MinterEllison continues to attract leading superannuation and funds management experts in response to client demands. In just over six months, leading experts who have joined the firm include: Ruth Stringer, partner, and Senior Associates, Guy Spielman and Philip Marquet.

Guy Spielman joined the team late last year and has expertise in superannuation, retirement incomes, and platforms and distribution. He joins us having worked in-house at Macquarie Group for the past two years. Before that, he worked with Ruth at another firm.

Philip Marquet is a leading advisor in institutional investment, superannuation and anti-money laundering. He has worked with most of Australia's leading corporate and industry superannuation funds in relation to their investments across the full range of asset classes, successor fund transfers, regulatory and disclosure issues, corporate governance matters, and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing compliance.

For the past eight years, Philip has worked with Allens.

Ruth Stringer, partner in charge of the superannuation practice, said, "It is such a coup to have Philip join the team. Philip adds unique experience and expertise, particularly in investment and transactional areas."

"He is respected and trusted by the key decision-makers in the superannuation sector. They value his commercial approach and that he is easy to work with."

"We have seen increased demand from clients for advice on investment governance, complex investment opportunities (both domestic and offshore), and proposed reforms to the super regulatory framework, including APRA's prudential standards. This is coupled with increased media and regulatory focus on how superannuation funds grapple with ESG issues including greenwashing and greenhushing, modern slavery and cyber security."

"Clients are demanding more from us. With access to the breadth of legal expertise at MinterEllison, including a highly regarded tax team as well as the broader service offering in areas such as risk and IT consulting available through MinterEllison Consulting, we can deliver a quality solution that protects reputation, minimises risk and adds value to their bottom line."

"Clients value the multi-disciplinary approach which is available under one roof."

According to global legal research firm Chambers and Partners, MinterEllison's Superannuation and Funds Management practice is recognised for its depth of experience across a broad range of issues affecting the industry, sound legal advice with an awareness and understanding of the commercial drivers.
