MinterEllison's creative, strategic and innovative work recognised by the world of competition law at GCR Awards

MinterEllison, who led the Australian Egg Corporation and James Kellaway's successful challenge to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s allegations of illegal collusion to reduce egg supplies, has won Behavioural matter of the year (Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa) at the Global Competition Review (GCR) Awards 2018.

Now in its eighth year, the GCR Awards celebrate the world of competition law – the matters, innovative approaches and people who advanced the global legal fraternities understanding of what antitrust can and should be.

The Behavioural matter of the year category recognises creative, strategic and innovative work carried out in a non-merger matter before an enforcer in Asia-Pacific, the Middle East or Africa.

"We are particularly proud of this recognition by our peers," said Paul Schoff, Partner, Head of the MinterEllison Competition Group. "The GCR Awards reflect the world's leading thinking in competition law, and it's an honour that we have been recognised amongst such renowned firms from so many jurisdictions."

The MinterEllison team was led by Grant Mitchell (Partner). He was supported by Marc Bevilacqua (Special Counsel) and Elise Holmes (Associate).

Tabcorp's A$11.3 billion acquisition of lottery owner Tatts was also shortlisted for Merger control matter of the year (Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa). MinterEllison advised CrownBet on its intervention of this merger authorisation application, with a team led by Geoff Carter (Partner), Glen Ward (Partner) and Miranda Noble (Special Counsel).

This was the largest, most complex and contested merger clearance in Australia in recent times.

It is the second consecutive year MinterEllison was involved in a matter shortlisted in the Merger control matter of the year category.

The GCR Awards reflect the thoughts of the international competition community, who voted for the people and matters they felt represented the best of 2017.

The winners were announced at the GCR Annual Awards Ceremony on 10 April in Washington, DC.
