Career highlights
- Health Litigation: Extensive experience acting in the defence of public and private sector health service entities, and individual health professionals, in medical malpractice claims, including both pre-litigated and litigated claims, including complex catastrophic injuries, matters involving complex liability issues, complex multi-party contribution and apportionment issues, and/or significant quantum, and related party claims, including nervous shock, wrongful death, dependency and loss of consortium.
- Health Coronial: Assisting public and private sector health service entities and individuals with preparation of submissions and statements in response to requests from the Coroner in Coronial investigations, and representation at Coronial inquests including as solicitor advocate, including several high profile Coronial inquests.
- Health Professional and Health Service Regulation: Regularly assists public and private sector health service entities and individual health practitioners via their Medical Defence Organisations to coordinate responses to information requests, prepare comprehensive submissions, and appear in professional disciplinary proceedings, including in matters regulated by the Office of the Health Ombudsman, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency, and the Professional Services Review.
- Health Regulation and Compliance: Provision of bespoke advice for public and private sector clients regarding statutory compliance including in relation to Mental Health, Human Rights, and Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation.
- Health Advisory: Provision of advice and representation in complex health consumer matters, including matters relating to consent for minors and decision making for adults with impaired capacity, including under the guardianship regime and disputed in the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
- Health Policy: Drafting and review of policies and procedures, guidelines and work instruction for public and private sector health service entities.
- Industry Engagement: Director on the Committee of the Medico-Legal Society of Queensland Inc.
- Industry Engagement: Appointment as a sessional academic at multiple tertiary institutions, including as guest lecturer in Health Law.
- Community Engagement: Active contribution to pro bono commitments, including as a volunteer taking regular appointments to assist clients with access to justice via LawRight.
