I work with a diverse range of industries and organisations, with varying scales of workforces. My clients include local government, mining and mining services, social and community services, aged care, health care, pharmaceuticals, and manufacturing.
Having a solid background in both employee and employer representation, I think innovatively when managing stakeholder relationships and deliver solutions uniquely tailored to clients' needs.
As a seasoned advocate, I regularly appear in Western Australian, Queensland and federal courts and tribunals. I guide clients through the complexities of dispute resolution with a pragmatic and commercially focused approach. I prioritise strategic litigation management with care to safeguard client reputation and integrity.
Beyond litigation, I have significant experience in interpreting and ensuring compliance with complex industrial instruments. I have led large scale projects in collaboration with external consultants and routinely guide employers across the full employee life-cycle – from onboarding and performance management to disciplinary management and off-boarding.
Career highlights
- I initiated and led WA Industrial Relations Commission proceedings for the declaration of the true interpretation of a WA state award on behalf of a not-for-profit client in the crisis assistance and supported housing sector. The matter was highly complicated factually due to an absence of historical information regarding the origins of the relevant award, ambiguities in drafting and (at times) jurisdictional uncertainties.
- I am a primary advisor to DevelopmentWA in relation to all employment-related matters including in relation to investigations, executive employment contracts, policy reviews, and fitness for work assessments.
- I was the lead advisor and project management strategist for two mining contractors in relation to the termination of 'zombie' agreements which pre-dated the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth). My advice included transition to underpinning modern awards, mitigation strategies to ensure legislative compliance, bargaining strategy including 'better off overall' analyses, drafting individual flexibility arrangements and updates to employment contracts.
- I managed a long-running compliance audit in relation to non-payment of entitlements under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 for a community services provider. The audit included complex modern award interpretation and analysis, and application of assumptions in the absence of time and attendance data.
- I advised three WA regional local governments in relation to the transition from the federal to WA state industrial relations jurisdiction. This included advice in relation to bargaining strategy, underpinning awards, contract and policy updates.
