Cameron Oxley (Partner, Victoria) is a leading litigation and dispute resolution practitioner with an outstanding track record providing litigation and advisory services to public and private sector clients on a wide range of insurance and health matters.
He has extensive experience in the insurance industry, acting for a wide range of domestic and oversees insurers, and also provides advice to corporate clients in the health and other industries in relation to their insurance programs.
In his 20 years of insurance and risk experience, Cameron has developed specialised expertise in professional indemnity litigation, directors and officers liability insurance and medical negligence. He acts for the Legal Practitioners Liability Committee (LPLC), the professional indemnity insurers of solicitors in Victoria, and for other insurers and self insured organisations in a wide variety of professions in respect of economic loss. He has advised company directors, accountants, trustees, real estate valuers, engineers, doctors, architects, stockbrokers and insurance brokers, in all aspects of liability matters. Cameron also has extensive experience acting for both directors and officers and insurers in liability matters. He regularly advises companies, statutory authorities and board members in relation to their insurance coverage and related issues, including the preparation of deeds of access and indemnity.
As a litigator, he has conducted proceedings before the Court of Appeal and High Court.
Cameron is a long-term adviser to Victoria's public hospitals and also acts for Australia's largest private hospital operator. He is monitoring counsel for one major director and officer insurer and acts for most domestic and London-based professional indemnity underwriters. He also acts for various government departments and agencies through the instructions of the Victorian Managed Insurance Authority. Other longstanding clients include most private hospital operators, such as Ramsay Health and Calvary Health Care, the LPLC, Resource Underwriting and Chubb.
Cameron is consistently recognised for his expertise in insurance in Best Lawyers International (2011). He is a member of the Australian Professional Indemnity Group, the Australian College of Health Service Executives and the Medico-Legal Society of Victoria.
Cameron is a regular contributor to seminars and conferences in the insurance and liability fields, and has been a guest lecturer on insurance at the Building Faculty of the University of Melbourne.
