Cheryl Phillips (Partner, South Australia) is in Minter Ellison’s Insurance and Corporate Risk division. She acts for and advises many of Australia's largest insurers in relation to liability, property and personal injury claims.
Over more than 14 years in the industry Cheryl has developed expertise in professional indemnity and public and product liability matters. She represents clients in all jurisdictions, including attending at mediations, and has experience in defending class actions.
Cheryl has specific expertise in dust diseases claims. She has assisted in the preparation of submissions in relation to the introduction of the Dust Diseases Act (2005), and currently conducts the majority of dust disease claims in South Australia. She also has specific expertise in litigation insurance and occupational health and safety matters.
Cheryl’s long-standing clients include Allianz, Comcare, Lumley (Wesfarmers) and Chubb.
She is a member of the Law Society of South Australia, the Australian Insurance Law Association and the Australian Professional Indemnity Group and the Australian Life Underwriters and Claims Association. She holds a corporate membership of the Australian Risk and Insurance Managers Association.

Cheryl has significant expertise in relation to dust disease claims. She has specialised in this area both prior to and since the introduction of the Dust Diseases Act 2005.
Currently Cheryl is conducting numerous dust diseases claims advising on issues of policy coverage, liability and contribution. She has run a case in the Supreme Court of South Australia dealing with policy coverage issues arising out of a mesothelioma claim.
Cheryl advises insurers in relation to policy coverage issues arising from a broad range of insurance claims. She also provides advice to corporate clients in relation to the adequacy of cover and insurance policy issues arising out of their contractual arrangements.
Cheryl litigates for and advises major insurers in relation to a wide range of matters including, professional indemnity, public liability and product liability claims. She also conducts life insurance claims for a number of Australia's largest life insurers.
Admitted to practice in South Australia and the Northern Territory, Cheryl regularly appears in proceedings before courts in all jurisdictions. She is also experienced in defending class actions.
Cheryl advises and represents a number of Commonwealth clients, including conducting OH&S prosecutions for Comcare.
