Workers Compensation

[Disclaimer: Some of the information on this page refers to our experience in Australian States and Territories other than New South Wales. Due to advertising restrictions in New South Wales, we are prohibited from publishing information about some of the legal services which we provide in that State.]

We have one of the largest and most well resourced workers’ compensation practices in Australia. Our team is at the forefront of workers’ compensation law and legislative reform.

Drawing on the experience and collective knowledge of our established practice, we are well positioned to provide expert legal advice to employers and regulators to help them identify and effectively manage their key compliance obligations under various schemes administered by the Commonwealth and state governments.

To complement our strong technical experience in this area, we have secured appointments on the workers’ compensation panels in Queensland, ACT and Northern Territory. Our Victorian WorkCover team is also a member of the Victorian WorkCover Authority’s legal panel. We provide advice and representation to the Victorian WorkCover Authority, its agents and employers in relation to claims and corporate risk.

We are also the sole provider to the WorkCover Corporation of South Australia, replacing a panel of nine firms. Since our appointment, we have significantly reduced WorkCover SA’s legal spend and have also halved the average duration of disputes.

In Victoria we are one of the few firms that still retains significant expertise and experience in handling claims under the old (pre-WorkCover) workers’ compensation system, with a proven track record in handling the defence of compensation claims, arising from exposure to asbestos.

Our workers’ compensation teams offer advice on statutory benefits, impairment benefit claims, common law claims, risk management and injury prevention, self-insured entry and compliance, common law investigations, portfolio management, occupational health and safety and industrial law issues, and recovery action against third parties.
